This is a landmark opportunity to shape a once-in-a-generation reform.

From 1 January 2026, the Australian CDC will be Australia’s independent, national source of expert public health advice, strengthening prevention, preparedness, partnerships, and data to meet future health challenges and respond to infectious disease outbreaks.

Leading a team of around 250 staff, the Director General will be a national figurehead for public health, advising the Australian Government and representing Australia in international forums.

The role will be central to protecting Australians’ health and building national confidence in how we prepare for, and respond to, public health threats.

Applications close Monday 29 September 2025 at 11:30pm AEST.
