Public health advice

We publish independent public health advice, including from the Director-General – and the evidence and reasoning behind it. This gives Australians transparency about what shapes the advice informing public health decisions.

Transparency is central to our role as a trusted public health institution. We build public confidence by openly sharing the evidence, reasoning and recommendations behind our health advice.

Advice published under the Act

Transparency helps governments, health professionals, researchers and communities:

  • understand emerging risks
  • make consistent decisions
  • maintain trust during uncertainty.

Sections 20 to 22 of the Australian Centre for Disease Control Act 2025 explain when we must publish certain final written public health advice provided to ministers and government agencies, that has not otherwise been prepared for publication. We will publish advice under sections 20 to 22 separately on this page when these requirements apply.

To honour our commitment to transparency, we proactively publish advice on our website, so it is available to everyone.

As a newly established agency, we are continuously expanding the information on our website and strengthening our publication processes. As our work program grows, we will publish more:

  • advice on how people can protect themselves from disease
  • guidance for health professionals, when providing advice to patients
  • public health resources.

What we have already published

Publishing public health information is a core part of our role.

We regularly publish evidence-based public health information and advice to support informed decisions as well as existing web updates, including:

In making public health information accessible through other channels, we reduced the need to publish advice separately under sections 20 to 22 of the Act.

Our publication framework helps people access and understand our public health advice. At the same time, it protects privacy, national security and other sensitive information.
