Annual report published for 2025–2026

From emerging disease threats to strengthening Australia’s preparedness, our first annual report looks back at the first 6 months of Australia’s Centre for Disease Control.

We are pleased to publish our first annual report, covering the 6 months following our commencement on 1 January 2026.

Our role is to strengthen Australia's public health preparedness and response capabilities. In our first 6 months, we:

  • supported national responses to Australia's largest recorded diphtheria outbreak
  • provided advice on the emergence of Andes virus hantavirus among international travellers
  • monitored international Ebola outbreaks
  • supported preparedness and response activities following the detection of bird flu in Australia
  • strengthened national surveillance, risk assessment and public health coordination
  • brought together expertise and information from across Australia and around the world to support evidence-based decision-making.

We are still a new agency, but we have already made important progress. Our work is helping Australia identify public health risks earlier, respond more effectively and prepare for future health threats.

Read our first annual report to learn more about what we achieved in our first year.
