These guidelines are for persons conducting a business or undertaking (e.g. employers or managers) of bird and wildlife workers (including volunteers). 

They provide general guidance on how to protect workers from avian influenza, including:

• legislative provisions, including work health and safety duties
• how avian influenza spreads and symptoms in humans
• preparing for an outbreak of avian influenza
• protecting workers’ health during an outbreak of avian influenza
• infection prevention and control precautions, including hygiene practices and personal protective equipment recommendations
• what to do if a worker is exposed to avian influenza and becomes sick.
